Introduction

Recent developments in information science and technology have been possible due to original and timely research contributions containing new results in various fields of applied mathematics. It is also true that advances in information science create opportunities for developing mathematical models further.

Mathematics Applied in Information Systems presents a series of reviews of mathematical methods applied to information systems. Readers will find, in this volume, chapters that cover mathematics applied in various vistas of information systems:

  • - software reliability modeling and optimizations
  • - software release control
  • - natural language processing and social network analysis
  • - food safety systems
  • - soil scattering models
  • - digital imaging processing
  • - supply chain management systems

This volume is essential reading for software engineering students and IT managers working in academia and industry (geosciences, supply chain management, software development, forensics, transportation etc.).

Preface

Today’s challenges faced by science and engineering are so complex features that can only be solved by the help of participation of mathematical scientists to research and development in the area of mathematical sciences application in information sciences. All approaches to scientific observation and experiment, theory are needed to understand the complex phenomena investigated by scientists and engineers and each approach requires the mathematical sciences. The real world utility of mathematics remarkably significance in the life of academics, practitioners, researchers and industry leaders. In recent years mathematics applied in information system considers only original and timely contribution containing new results in various fields of applied mathematics. Advance in science and technology, however, brought about a further development of mathematical applications.

This book Mathematics Applied in Information Systemconfronts various series of range in mathematics applied to information systems. Mathematics applied in various fields of software reliability relating to different aspects, reliability optimization in intuitionistic fuzzy environment, information technology, natural language processing, supply chain management, geoscience, mathematical models for digital imaging and their applications in digital image forensics have been discussed through the chapters.

The Editor acknowledges Bentham Science for this opportunity and for their enthusiastic and professional support. Finally, I would like to thank all the chapter authors and reviewers for their availability for this work.
