Introduction

Emerging Technologies in Women's Health is the first of a series of books dedicated providing updates on rapid advances in new technologies in women’s healthcare for researchers and clinicians. This eBook explains techniques of performing minimally invasive robotic surgery in a concise manner. Each chapter is contributed by experts in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery and contains several useful line drawn illustrations and photographs. This eBook should be of interest to gynecologic surgeons, fellows and residents.

Preface

Numerous treatments and devices have been introduced into the armamentarium to treat disorders and diseases in women. Due to rapid advances in new technologies, clinicians and researchers are not always updated with their knowledge. Indeed, there are many new technologies in women's health, I have identified many new technologies in women's health. These include robotic surgery, new imaging technologies, novel treatment of uterine fibroid including MR guided focused ultrasound, image capturing, virtual reality and many others. These topics become Ebook series on "Emerging Technologies in Women's Health".

The first e-book in this series is Robotic Surgery in Gynecology and the guest editor is Dr. Arnold Advincula. Dr. Advincula is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and a pioneer in Robotic Surgery. The contributors are experts in advanced laparoscopy surgery and robotic surgery. Each chapter contains many illustrations by line drawing, photographs and surgical technique which is illustrated step by step. As the technique is relatively new, we allow overlapping of the chapters allowing the readers to learn different techniques from the experts.

This concise and practical e-book on robotic surgery is for practicing gynecologists, residents of Obstetrics and Gynecology, fellows of Reproductive Endocrinology and fellows of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Readers will gain an understanding of robotic surgery in gynecology, its advantages and disadvantages and learn about the development and delivery of this technique. We also hope that this book will be helpful in directing new investigations and the clinical management of patients.
