Chapter 17
Roles of Inositol & Inositol Phosphates in Immunity, Infection and Inflammation
A.K.M. Shamsuddin and Guang-Yu Yang
Abstract
InsP6 with or without inositol enhances NK cell activity and stimulates polymorphonuclear cell priming function and the macrophages to produce cytokines. InsP6 can inhibit human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication; both InsP5 and InsP6 are critical in HIV particle assembly. InsP6 plays significant roles in mucosal protection in the gastrointestinal tract, and inflammation.
